Pastor Rod teaches in Acts 17 about the people in Athens, the city was completely given over to false gods. Acts 17:16b, "Paul was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols." And pastor Rod encourages us to break for people like Paul did, do not hate people. Paul was looking for opportunity and could not let any pass by. And when we see people, let us always remember, Jesus already paid for their sins, they just have to accept it. Acts 17:19b-20, "they said to him, 'May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean." If someone is truly seeking knowledge and information about your views, give them Jesus.

Pastor Rod teaches in Acts chapter 17, verse 1b-2 "Paul and Silas went to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. Paul, as his custom was, went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures". Pastor Rod asks the question if we are using our Bible as a daily tool? Are we letting our Bible collect dust? Let us fill up on God's Amazing Word. Let us be ready. 1 Peter 3:15 But in your heats set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. Let God's Word transform you. Proverbs 4:20-22, "My son, pay attention to what I say: listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body."

Pastor Rod explains how Paul and Silas didn't go to jail for the Gospel and then whine about it; they made the most of their time and brought the Gospel to those in prison, even to their Jailer. This story is an example of how when you live for the Lord, you don't have to make up ways to share the Gospel!

Pastor Rod continues his teaching on Paul and Silas's journey. Coming across Lydia and her conversion and baptism through bad times, we learn that earthly expectations often disappoint us. Scripture teaches us that God promises our needs instead. Don't let earthly expectations steal your joy (Ezra 3:12-13). God is looking for people who are faithful even in the insignificant. Always be listening, always be learning, and allow God to be involved to open your heart.

Pastor Rod speaks in Chapter 16 about the importance of moving forward with the Holy Spirit. Timothy joins Paul and Silas on the journey to share the gospel. As the disciples we want to build God's Kingdom. We want to minister to others out of love for God's Glory. Be willing to listen when God whispers. Be willing to give up whatever in order to be used for greater work. Be ready, moving, serving for God. He will get you where He wants you to go.

Pastor Rod explains some church basics we can learn from Paul and Barnabas' missionary journey and how we can recognize the Holy Spirit moving in our lives. We have a general direction of which way to go, but the Holy Spirit provides the specifics.

Pastor Rod taught that like believers in the the early church, we carry a lot of baggage into a relationship with God. But, as the early church leaders explained, when we have a right relationship with God, the rest follows.

Pastor Rod discussed how Paul and Barnabas finished up their first missionary journey by doubling back to each church they had visited. Why double back when they could have taken a shortcut to get home? Because they wanted to "strengthen the souls of the disciples" (not just make converts) through (1) Teaching, (2) Encouraging, (3) Modeling, and (4) Exhorting.

Pastor Rod teaches about Paul and Barnabas in Lystra. God healed a man through Paul. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed and called out, "Stand up on your feet!" At that, the man jumped up and began to walk (Acts 14:9-10). We are miracles. And our whole life will show whether we believe what GOD said and what He did and will do. Faith is important, faith grows from healing, and faith grows from doing by confirming your beliefs. Surrender your life to Christ. God will never forget your name. God loves you and wants to show His Love through you.

Pastor Rod used the example of Paul and Barnabas to explain how we can persevere in the face of adversity when it comes to sharing the Gospel. They continued to speak the word and they didn't let opposition stop them. We can do the same.
