Pastor Rod teaches in 2 Samuel 24, where we see David taking a census of the people. His sin was he was looking at the strength of his army, and not trusting in the Lord as his strength. There were major consequences for David's sin. But as we see David repent, the Lord tells David to build Him an altar. It was from this time on that David began to invest his energy on the temple that his son Solomon would eventually build. Where as we see David at the beginning of this chapter seeking to build his own kingdom, at the end we see him seeking to be about God's kingdom and build Him a temple.
